Floriana FC 0 vs 1 Valletta FC
Floriana had Tiago Adan Fonseca missing through suspension, however, Stefano D’Agostino was making his debut after signing for the Greens earlier this week whilst Beye replaced Ruiz following an injury in the warm-up.
A goal early in the first half was enough for Valletta to claim the three points in the derby.
Valletta forged ahead a few minutes after the kick-off when off a free-kick by Caruana, Steve Borg headed behind the Floriana custodian to give an early lead to Valletta.
Following Valletta’s goal, Floriana had a golden opportunity from Beye upon receiving a cross following a free-kick by Diego Silva with his header parried away by Bonello. A few minutes later Keqi saw his chance parried away by Bonello, a few minutes later a chance fell onto Garcia with the Argentinean’s shot was cleared by Steve Borg.
Four minutes in the second half, a powerful drive by Bojan Kaljevic ended just wide. Matteo Piciollo hit high off a Miguel Angel Alba freekick from the left on the 76th minute.
Deep into stoppage time, Valletta could have doubled the score when in a swift counter-attack, Santiago Malano hit incredibly wide, after exchanging the ball with Fontanella, despite catching Akpan out of place. Finally, Diego Venancio had a powerful long-distance freekick blocked by Bonello.
