Floriana FC 3 vs 4 Gzira United.
Floriana succumbed their fourth defeat of the season to Gzira’s expense, for Floriana was a disappointing performance especially in the second half.
Floriana kicked off the match and had the first chance on target on the twelfth minute when captain Chiesa unleashed a powerful shot from outside the area which ended few inches wide. The Greens controlled well through the first half dominating possesion yet couldn’t conclude behind the Gzira custodian. Floriana took the lead on the forty second minute when Amadou Samb advanced on the right, the Senegalese crossed to the middle who found Ignacio Varela with the latter in a difficult position managed to put Floriana ahead right before half time.
In the second half it was a completely different story, it only took few minutes for Gzira to score the equaliser, it was Adesina who advanced past the Greens defence who unleashed a powerful top corner shot who gave Haber no chance. At the stadium as rain continued to increase it was Gzira to take the lead it was a free kick from outside the area who it was well executed by Azzopardi who with his powerful shot gave Haber no chance to save.
The Maroons scored their third on the seventy fifth minute when Juan Corbolan advanced on the right wing , beating Enrico Pepe with only Haber to beat Corbolan placed the ball with a powerful drive which gave Haber no chance to save. Gzira scored their fourth when Zome unleashed a powerful drive who hit the post before ending behind the Floriana custodian. Floriana were given a lifeline as few seconds later following a Steve Pisani free kick, Gzira’s defence didn’t clear well with the ball falling onto Ryan Camenzuli’s feet with the latter unleashing a powerful chip which gave Borg no chance to save.
Floriana scored their third in the stoppage time when Gzira’s defender Borg, fouled Fontanella inside the area, it was the Italian who took the responsability from the spot kick who was partially saved by goalkeeper Borg with Fontanella scoring from the rebound.
