Floriana FC 2 vs 0 Senglea Athletics (A.E.T.)
Floriana advance to the quarter-final of the FA Trophy after defeating Senglea Athletics at the Hibernians Stadium on Saturday.
Coach Enzo Potenza rested several first-team players, namely goalkeeper Akpan, Pisani, Paiber and Keqi.
Floriana started the mettle early in the game, when off a Venancio free-kick after four minutes the ball met Beye but his effort was blocked off the goal-line. A few minutes later Senglea had their share too when off a Dias cross the ball met Texeira with the latter’s header hitting the post. A powerful drive by Camenzuli ended wide at goal.
As half-time was approaching Floriana were awarded the free-kick, from the kick Venancio saw his shot sailing wide.
Following the break, coach Potenza introduced Keqi and this move made its immediate impact onto the match, the Albanian striker was floored inside the area by Debono, however, Venancio’s low-shot was parried by Farrugia.
Beye also tried his luck, however, his shot ended wide at goal, a few minutes later Venancio tried his luck however the Brazilian’s shot was parried away by Farrugia.
The Boys in Green continued to press their opponents when substitute Brandon Paiber missed by a few inches, Tiago Adan Fonseca header was also cleared off-the-line by Cipriott to deny the Greens in opening the score.
Following a stalemate throughout the ninety-minutes, the game went on Extra-time, the first chance fell onto Keqi but his effort was cleared off the line by Sigitas Olberkis.
Floriana broke the deadlock when a powerful free-kick from Venancio ended behind Farrugia to give Floriana the lead late in the game. The Greens increased their tally a few minutes later when Fonseca rounded the Senglea custodian with Paiber tapping in.
