Floriana bag another win.

Floriana FC 2 vs 1 Sta. Lucia.

A positive second half, following a shaky first half, was enough for Floriana to claim the three points in a difficult match against Santa Lucia.

Santa Lucia started well, it was Rei Tachikawa who saw his chance parried away by Akpan. A few minutes later the Greens started to attack but an effort by Paiber was parried away by Caruana, the Santa Lucia custodian. As the time was ticking the game was more tactical, with both sides being wary of each other’s treats with both sides defending well, muscling for every ball throughout the first half, with both sides trying every chance that came to them.

After the break, Floriana started well, exactly on the forty-ninth minute Cini passed an excellent through ball to Matias Garcia with the ball ending over the bar. Floriana continued to press Santa Lucia, when the referee signalled an erratic play in the Santa Lucia defensive line, when Thiago Fonseca was fouled, Diego Venancio Da Silva took the responsibility of the set-piece and with a beautiful powerful drive he gave Floriana the lead, to the joy of the Floriana faithful present that the Hibernians Stadium this Saturday afternoon. Floriana once again started their opponents soon after their kick-off, it was Paiber who passed onto Fonseca with the former Hibernians striker unleashing a powerful curling drive from outside the area with the ball ending behind Caruana to increase the tally for the Greens.

Santa Lucia hit the side-netting when Elouni received a cross from Escobar with the former Sliema player seeing his shot ending hitting the net. Santa Lucia scored their consolation goal when a shot by Adam Magri Overend  gave Akpan no chance to parry, but it was too late for the Yellows as the time was already up, with the boys in Green getting full points from the match.
