Gudja United 0 vs 2 Floriana FC

Despite having a player sent off, Floriana defeated Gudja United at the Centenary Stadium.

Both sides started the match in a controlling matter, with Floriana attacking their opponents through the middle with Gudja defending well to the Greens attacks.

However it was on the twenty-second minute where the game sparked, it was a swift attack which Caseres was shown a straight red-card for a rough challenge on the Gudja custodian.

On the thirty-second minute, Diego Venancio saw his fierce drive hitting the upright with Aquilina immobilized.

However this was the prelude for the opener, as Venancio released a venomous through ball to Tiago Adan with the latter’s low powerful shot beating Aquilina to give Floriana the lead and sending the Floriana fans into raptures.

Fonseca’s once again listed his name on the score-sheet, this time it was a powerful long range drive from outside the area with Aquilina stunned.

Following the break, Akpan produced an excellent save on Mensah.

Floriana’s rear guard continued to defend well the lead and swiftly counter attacking Gudja’s defence despite playing with ten men.
