Birkirkara FC 0 vs 1 Floriana FC

Floriana started off the 2019-20 league campaign with an important win over Birkirkara at the National Stadium.

Making their debut for Floriana were coach Enzo Potenza together with players; Diego Silva, Matias Caceres, Matias Garcia, Ryan Camenzuli and Tiago Adan Fonseca who was included as a substitute later in the second half.

The Greens fought really hard to obtain this win as Birkirkara in the second half started to attack the Greens, however, Floriana’s rearguard defended well their goal to obtain the three points from this match.

Floriana started well when off a Kristian Keqi shot on the tenth minute the ball skimmed wide. The Stripes replied through a Miguel Alba drive following an N’Tow cross inside the area.

The Greens threatened once again Birkirkara, it was Diego Venancio Da Silva who’s freekick from outside the area was parried away with a great save by goalkeeper Hogg. A chance fell onto Uli Arias, however, his shot was once again parried away by goalkeeper Hogg.

On the twenty-eight minute, Jurgen Pisani saw his chance parried away, however, a few minutes later Andrew Hogg was left hapless when off a Diego Silva corner the ball met Kristian Keqi who rose above the stripes defence and beat the Maltese international to give Floriana a merited lead in the first half before the break.

The Stripes attacked through Vella, who served Yankam however the youngster’s shot ended wide.

Following the break, Birkirkara subbed attacker Caio and gave the debut to their latest acquisition Federico Falcone in the search to reduce the deficit, however, a header from the Argentinean was cleared off the line by Enzo Ruiz to move away the ball from the danger.

Akpan produced a great save following a Roderick Briffa shot.
