Floriana clinch derby win.

Floriana FC 2 vs 0 Valletta FC.

During yesterday afternoon Floriana halted Valletta’s positive run towards the title.

It was a well-deserved win for Floriana as they controlled their opponents from the very beginning, , it was Valletta who attacked first, it was Fontanella who saw his chance hitting the side-netting.

Ugolotti’s men started to gain momentum throughout the first half, the first chance came to Ulisses Arias, who advanced through the left flank with his low cross cleared away with difficulty.

Floriana took the lead on the half an hour play, it was a well-executed free-kick by Brandon Paiber which gave Bonello no chance to parry away. Shortly after Valletta had another golden opportunity but their chance ended wide at goal.

Following the break, Floriana continued to hold most of the possession with Valletta trying to penetrate the Greens defence however the Greens defended well the result in their favour.  Valletta had a golden chance near the end when Jonathan Caruana saw his header ending wide at goal.

Valletta had a golden opportunity through a shot by substitute Nwoko who’s chance was parried away, few minutes later a low shot was cleared off the line by Arthur Oyama to deny the “Whites”.

A powerful shot by Emy Pena Beltre was parried away by Akpan few minutes later.

Valletta’s loss, Floriana’s gain and indeed it was, following a swift counter-attack by the Greens it was Herrera who’s pass met Kristian Keqi, who with a swift dribble rounded the Lillywhite’s defence and with a curled clinical shot inside the area left Bonello stranded to the joy of Floriana faithful present at the National Stadium yesterday.
