Unlucky Floriana beaten by Stripes.

Floriana FC 0 vs 2 Birkirkara FC.

Floriana can count themselves unlucky as they were beaten Birkirkara after playing most time of the match in  numerical disadvantage.

The Boys in Green were denied on the elevent when Juninho Cabral was clearly fouled inside the area by Naumovski with the referee waving play on despite the protests by the Floriana clan. Floriana continued to press their opponents when Juninho Cabral saw his shot blocked by the Stripes custodian, minutes later Birkirkara had a chance on goal with Akpan parrying away the danger. Few minutes later Floriana were denied the goal once again by Naumovski following a direct free kick from the left side, the Stripes goalie proved once again himself as he saved away the danger.

Before the break Floriana were reduced to ten men, when Alexander Cini was sent off following a challenge on a Birkirkara player.

After the break both sides shared midfield exchanges with Floriana controlling their opponents well despite the numerical disadvantage, Birkirkara had a chance on the seventy fourth minute when Siqueira’s acrobatic kick was parried away by Akpan. Moments later Floriana had a chance through Varela with Naumovski blocking the shot.

Floriana had a chance by subsitute Daniel Agius, following a run down the left hand side of the pitch, the latter saw his chance parried away by the Stripes custodian.  Birkirkara broke the deadlock late into the match, exactly on the eighty-eight minute when Andjelkovic saw his powerful drive from outside the area beating Akpan to give Birkirkara the lead late into the game.

The Stripes could have increased the lead few minutes later when Siqueira one on one with Akpan missed a golden opportunity.

Birkirkara however increased the lead in the dying minutes of the match , when Jake Grech placed the ball behind Akpan.
