Floriana win against the Paolites.

Floriana FC 2 vs 0 Hibernians FC

Coach Luis Oliveira couldn’t have a better start with Floriana as he collected Floriana’s first three points of the season against the Paola side.

The Boys in Green welcomed back Maurizio Vella who returned to the starting eleven after missing out the first two outings for Floriana. Floriana opened the score midway through the first half when an up swinging cross by Alex Cini met Ignacio Varela, the latter headed the ball past Andrew Hogg to give Floriana the lead.

Hibernians started to mount pressure on Floriana but the Greens defence controlled well their opponents, Johann Bezzina almost drew for the Paolites however his shot ended wide. On the sixtieth minute Hibernians notched the draw however the goal was annulled as the Hibs player handled the ball inside the area, therefore the goal was ruled out for hands ball.

Floriana increased the lead seventy-first minute when substitute Daniel Agius upon receiving a pass from Arthur Oyama unleashed a powerful drive from the left giving Andrew Hogg no chance to parry it to increase the lead for Floriana.

At the dying minutes of the match Hibernians could have scored a consolation goal however from the penalty spot Johann Bezzina saw his shot parried away by Akpan.
