Floriana hammer Mosta.

Floriana FC 5 vs 0 Mosta FC.

Floriana revenged the first round last minute draw against Mosta as on Saturday afternoon at the National Stadium the Greens hammered Mosta by five goals to nil.

Coach Chiesa opted for Dylan Grima and Maurizio Vella who returned from suspension as they replaced Nayar who was suspended and Arthur Oyama. Floriana started well when Mario Fontanella saw his effort from outside the area ending inches wide at goal. Few minutes later Michele Paolucci ran through the left flank with the latter seeing his low shot being cleared off the line by Tyrone Farrugia. Mosta started to press Floriana as Akwa Dei Agyement saw his shot cleared off the line by Cini.

On the twelfth minute Floriana had a disallowed goal , it was once again Michele Paolucci, the Italian striker concluded a good run and unleashed a powerful low drive with the ball deflected on the way with the assistant referee signalling for an offside position. Mosta replied immediately when Zach Brincat crossed with the ball meeting Massimo Sammartino with his header being parried away by Akpan.  On the twenty-third minute Floriana replied with a Maurizio Vella free kick with the ball ending inches wide. Floriana broke the deadlock before the break when following a cross from the right Mansi committed an auto-goal to give Floriana the lead before the break. Few minutes later Paolucci sent a cross with the ball meeting Fontanella but the latter’s effort ended a bit wide at goal. Floriana had also an opportunity through Steve Pisani but his shot ended wide at goal, however before the break the best chance came to Mosta when they were awarded a free kick from outside the area, Akpan produced a great acrobatic save to deny Mosta the draw before the break.

Following the break Floriana started well, Paolucci concluded a good run on the right before being floored by Farrugia, the referee pointed to the spot, from the spot Juninho Cabral made no mistake to score the second goal for Floriana. On the sixty-seventh minute Floriana scored their third through Paolucci the Italian striker received a good cross by Fontanella with the Italian striker dribbling past Vella to increase the tally for Floriana. Fontanella marked his name on the scoresheet when he received through Cabral who found no problem in concluding, the Italian striker was once again on target as he received a cross from Maurizio Vella and with a precise header beat Vella.

Floriana from there never looked back and continued to control their opponents in their own half. During this game Jake Stensen and Denilson Borg Castaldi made their Premier League debut for Floriana FC, both are Floriana FC Nursery products.
