Floriana back to winning ways.

Floriana FC 1 vs 0 Hamrun Spartans FC.

Floraina returned to winning ways as they beat Hamrun Spartans this afternoon at the Hibernians Stadium.

Hamrun started well and after just few minutes they created their first goal opportunity when Zerafa’s volley ended wide. Floriana started to press their opponents and on the sixteenth minute a low shot from outside the area by Italian striker Mario Fontanella was parried away by goalkeeper Galea.

Floriana took the lead on the twenty seventh minute when off a Fontanella through ball, Cabral advanced through the flank before unleashing a powerful low drive on the left of Galea which gave the Spartans no chance to parry to give Floriana the lead. Just before the break a Criaco free kick threatened Floriana’s defence as the ball met Zaccardo, with the latter’s header ending inches wide off goal.

Right after the break, Floriana were awarded a free kick, Fontanella stepped up for the free kick with the Italian striker seeing his shot being parried away with difficulty from the Hamrun goalkeeper. On the sixty fourth minute Floriana nearly made it two, when Cabral ran through the Hamrun defence before unleashing a powerful drive which hit the woodwork in which it seemed to be an easy goal to make. On the sixty-eight minute, Matthew Grech came on for Floriana as he replaced Ini Etim Akpan between goal as Akpan suffered a back injury following a rough challenge after a corner by Hamrun. Grech came into rescue few minutes later when a Hamrun striker came one on one with Grech with the latter parrying away the danger to deny the Spartans in getting the draw. On the seventy-fourth minute Hamrun were reduced to ten men, as Espindola was sent off for his second bookable offence in the match. On the seventy-ninth minute Floriana’s Cini saw his chance saved by Galea.
