Birkirkara FC 2 vs 0 Floriana FC
Floriana have begun the second round of this season’s BOV Premier League with a defeat to Birkirkara, this defeat leaves Floriana in fourth place. For Floriana was the second defeat of the season after last Wednesday Super Cup success against Hibernians.
The Stripes took the lead on the eleventh minute when off a low cross by Bruno Andrade Fernandes de Brito the Greens defence failed to clear with the ball falling onto Jake Grech with the latter slotting the ball behind Akpan to give Birkirkara an early lead into the match. The Stripes increased their efforts and on the seventeenth minute Luke Montebello doubled the score, Ryan Scicluna served Montebello who once again the Greens defence failed to clear with the latter rounding a defender before unleashing a powerful drive to beat Akpan to increase the lead for Birkirkara. Before the break a powerful drive by Steve Pisani was parried away by Shranz, Birkirkara’s custodian.
Following the break Floriana improved their performance and started to attack Birkirkara, Maurizio Vella saw his shot hitting the crossbar, Vella as well so his free kick ending wide missing by few. The Italian was once again protagonist when his powerful shot was saved by Shranz.
