Floriana FC 1 vs 3 Naxxar Lions (A.E.T)
Holders Floriana bow out of the FA Trophy at Naxxar Lions’s expense, for Floriana this was a shock defeat.
On the fourth minute Scott Fenwick opened the score for Naxxar, when off a cross from Daren Falzon the British beat Grech from close range to give Naxxar an early lead in the match.
On the twenty fifth minute Floriana were awarded a penalty, from the spot Steve Pisani saw his chance parried away by Nicht.
Right after the break Floriana restored parity it was Ousseynou Ndoye who fouled Juninho inside the area, from the spot Mario Fontanella despite slipping slotted the ball behind Nicht. Coach Giovanni Tedesco was sent off following some remarks. Despite playing with then men Naxxar were playing better football throughout the game with Floriana defending well against Naxxar’s attacking football. The game ended as a draw and extra time had to be played to determine which club will go through out of both.
Right after the game had resumed it was again Fenwick who scored, it was Yuri Messias following a dribble down the left flank who found Fenwick alone with the latter slotting the ball behind Grech to give Naxxar the lead in the extra time. Assistant coach Daniele Caleca was also sent off by the match official. As Floriana tried to attack deep into stoppage time their counter attack left their rear guard open, it was Messias this time who found himself in front of Grech who couldn’t do any better being alone in his box with Naxxar notching their third goal of the game.
