S.K. Victoria Wanderers 1 vs 3 Floriana FC
Floriana reach the FA Trophy final after beating Gozitan side S.K Victoria Wanderers at the Gozo Stadium yesterday afternoon.
Floriana started well and on the 23rd minute they opened the score it was Mario Fontanella who advanced through the middle passing to the unmarked Steve Pisani with the latter finishing in style to give Floriana the lead. The Boys in Green created most of the chances but found the Victoria’s rearguard hard to crack, Victoria levelled just before half time through their only attack of the first half , it was Fernando Giarrizo who after rounding a Floriana defender beat Haber with a low shot.
In the second half Floriana showed their intention and increased tempo, their efforts were duly prized it was Maurizio Vella who was just fouled outside the area, referee Clayton Pisani awarding Floriana a free kick, it was the same Vella who from outside the area hit a well struck free kick to give Floriana the lead. As the game restarted Floriana continued to press Victoria and on the seventy fourth minute Steve Pisani increased the tally for the Greens from the penalty spot to make it three-one for Floriana. Victoria ended the game with ten men , it was Fernando Giarrizo who was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Floriana now will meet old firm rivals Sliema in the FA Trophy final, we hope to see a huge crowd to the National Stadium next Saturday at 17.00hrs, also on a side note we would like to thank all the Floriana faithful who traveled all the way from Malta to Gozo to make the atmosphere ecstatic as it was, we hope that next Saturday will be the same , or even better ?
