Floriana FC 0 vs 1 Balzan FC.
A late controversial penalty late in the second half denies Floriana precious points.
Floriana held the initiative when on the eighth minute a free kick by Ryan Camenzuli fell to Nicolas Chiesa which shot was blocked by Balzan’s custodian. Balzan tried their luck when former Matteo Piciollo had a shot blocked by goalkeeper Justin Haber.
On the twenty-seventh minute Mario Fontanella passed to Ignacio Varela who rounded goalkeeper Ivan Janjusevic with the ball seemed heading towards a Floriana lead with Balzan’s defender Bruno Giglio de Oliveira clearing off the goal line. Balzan’s Alfred Effiong tried his luck, with goalkeeper Justin Haber parring away Balzan’s chance.
In the beginning of the second half Floriana held most of the initiative , creating good scoring chances, on the seventy sixth minuted Mario Fontanella released Amadou Samb who was included as a substitute later in the second half with his chance being parried away by Balzan’s custodian. Four minutes later Mario Fontanella could have scored when his shot was blasted over the bar.
It was Balzan who took an unxpected lead in the dying minutes when Floriana’s defender Enrico Pepe charged Alfred Effiong an action where referee Glenn Tonna pointed to the spot , from the resulting penalty Lydon Micallef put Balzan ahead to make it one nil for Balzan.
